In town for the NCAA Hockey regionals? Here's a few spots worth a visit during your stay

PROVIDENCE 鈥 In town this weekend for some men鈥檚 ice hockey championship action?听

You鈥檙e in luck. There are far worse host cities in which your favorite team could have landed.听

Providence has a little bit of everything 鈥 great dinner spots, vibrant sports bars and a bit of culture if you know where听to look. We鈥檒l spare any links to Roger Williams or the Independent Man in this space 鈥 even with a win in Friday鈥檚 opener, it鈥檚 only a short stay.听

Amica Mutual Pavilion is the venue for all three games in this regional. Boston College and Michigan Tech get us going at 2 p.m. Friday, the No. 1 overall seed in the field against the de facto Cinderella. Wisconsin and defending national champion Quinnipiac follow at 5:30 p.m., and the two survivors will square off Sunday at 4 p.m.听

The Eagles and Bobcats are both within driving distance. The Huskies and Badgers both endured a little longer trip from the Midwest. There is no road too far that eventually leads to a Frozen Four 鈥 that's the goal for all four teams converging here.听

The NCAA hockey regionals are in Providence this weekend, with the winner advancing to the Frozen Four, which will be in St. Paul, Minn., next month.

Pregame, in-game, postgame, off-day entertainment 鈥 it's all here. This list includes just a few options around the city. There鈥檚 plenty more to discover if you鈥檙e fortunate enough to stick around into the weekend.听

惭耻谤辫丑测鈥檚听

100 Fountain St.听

Just a couple blocks from the rink and a local favorite. Murphy鈥檚 serves up all the familiar features of a proper Irish establishment 鈥 solid food options, pints of all flavors, friendly faces behind the bar and a late 2 a.m. closing. This is where you鈥檇 most likely find a late hockey or basketball crowd catching some action on the screens.听

Trinity Brewhouse听

186 Fountain St.听

This downtown staple is going on 30 years and hasn鈥檛 skipped a beat. The rotating in-house beer selections span from red ales to golden pilsners. Menu favorites include the pulled pork sandwich and the Warsaw platter 鈥 just think kielbasa by the pound.听

Blake's Tavern's Knucklehead Chili can be easily made at home, or ordered at the restaurant.

Blake鈥檚 Tavern听

122 Washington St.听

A couple extra blocks walking distance from the venue but well worth it. Blake鈥檚 features two different rooms 鈥 a cozy bar with a more traditional feel or an open, more modern space covered with tables and wall-mounted screens. Grab the famous grilled reuben or a French dip and settle in. 听

Muldowney鈥檚 Pub听

121 Empire St.听

No frills to be found here. Plastic cups, cold drafts, pool table, a lively jukebox 鈥 this has never tried to be your trendy gastropub, and it鈥檚 more charming for it. This could be the ideal postgame spot to have a couple more rounds before retreating to the team hotel. 听

Providence brew pub Union Station Brewery a three-course beer pairing menu available for game night.

Union Station Brewery听

36 Exchange Terrace听

Need proof this is a legitimate hockey bar? Grab a tall can of the 5 Minute Major Golden Ale 鈥 the limited release includes a caricature of a Providence Bruins player who was clearly on the wrong end of a fighting major. The menu offers a host of gluten-free options and a tasty meatball pizza.听

The Vig听

21 Atwells Ave.听

There isn鈥檛 a shorter trip to be found from any bar or restaurant. The Vig is just steps across La Salle Square to the front entrance and shares a building space with a Starbucks and a Hilton. Be sure to check their hours 鈥 doors might not be open as frequently as elsewhere.听

Federal Hill听

Atwells Avenue

Stand in the middle of听the street and throw a rock (softly, and not toward any windows) in any direction. You鈥檙e likely to hit an Italian restaurant that will make your night. Cassarino鈥檚 and Andino鈥檚 are personal favorites for dinner 鈥 be sure to try for reservations 鈥 and Providence Oyster Bar serves up a $1 oyster and clam bar for Appy Hour. 听
