Wicked Tulip is now open for the 2024 season. What to know and other tulip picking spots

The popular flower farm launched their soft opening this week at their The Exeter field has more than 100 varieties of early tulips ready to be picked.

"We see more color in the field every hour, and I am already excited to see the field on Opening Day, Wednesday, April 10th, 2024," the field report for the Exeter patch said on April 9.

Wicked Tulip plants over 1.5 million bulbs across their three locations, Exeter, Preston, CT and Johnston. The fields bloom one after the other as varieties with different bloom times are planted at each location.

Here's what to know if you're thinking about going.

Thanks to a new technique of covering some of the fields, Wicked Tulips opened its Exeter field earlier than ever in 2023.

Where: Exeter is at 400 Hog House Hill Rd., RI.; location at 90 Brown Ave., RI

Opening Day: The Exeter location has soft opened. e Preston location will likely open the week of April 22. ThThe Johnston location will open toward the end of April.

What to expect: The first site to open is their Exeter location, which is 5 acres with more than 100 varieties of tulips to literally pick from. The Preston location is the largest with 750,000 tulips and 125 varieties. The Johnston location is packed with over 100 varieties of late blooming tulips. Wicked Tulip plants more than a million bulbs over year.

Other places you can pick tulips in Rhode Island and Massachusetts this spring

While Wicked Tulip is the biggest flower field in town, they're not the only place you can go if you're hoping to pick some tulips for your dining room table. Here's are some other farms you could take a little trip too.

What to expect: Unlike at Wicked Tulip, tulips are not the bread and butter of this farm, which is next door to the Wicked Tulip Johnston location. In 2022, they had a modest field with plenty of blooms. They charged $25 to pick a mason jar鈥檚 worth of stems, which is about 15 stems, and do not require tickets. 聽

Opening Day: Expected to be April 17, 2024

Opening Day: April 21, 2024

What to expect: Picking at Wilson Farm lasts from two to three weeks, according to their website, so plan accordingly.

Tickets: Adult admission is $19.99 (includes 10 stems of tulips that you pick); Companion Adult Admission is $9.99; Children 3-14 Admission is $4.99; Children 2 and under are free.

Where: 45 Fern Avenue, Amesbury

Festival dates: Dependent on the field and weather, the tentative dates are May 4-5, 2024 and May 11-12, 2024

What to expect: Here's what the farm said on its , "A gorgeous, fan-favorite variety of 100k tulips are scheduled to bloom in early May. Welcome spring with this multi-weekend festival featuring free live music, self-guided blooming orchard walks, outdoor hard cider bars, food trucks, fitness n' family activities and General entrance is free but online tickets for tulip picking is required. Walk-in tickets will not be sold upon arrival on the farm."

What to expect: Over 100,000 tulips have been planted at this farm. Each ticket allows guests to pick 10 to bring home.

"We will start selling a few days before we open, just as the tulips are coloring up," the website states. "We are anticipating opening day will be during the week of 聽April 14聽but we are not in charge here, Mother Nature is. Stay tuned and on Instagram for updates."
